Deadliest Catch

I just love this Discovery Channel show. Ted was watching it one Sunday this summer and had me sit down to watch it with him. By the time it was over, I was hooked on it. I wish I could actually pinpoint what it is that makes me like it so much, but I just can't quite put my finger on it.

It could be that they are all living life on the edge. One wrong move on a crab boat, and you could end up in the water. It could be that the men seem to really know their trade, for the most part. They need to work together like a well oiled machine. It could be that there's competition between the boats, comparing how much crab they can bring in. It could be that they occasionally face serious issues out on the water and can't always count on the Coast Guard to help them, due to the weather. It could be that the men on the boats are a little on the "rough" side, if you know what I mean. Sometimes that gruffness can be intriguing. It could be any number of things, but whatever it is, I keep going back for more.

A few weeks ago I was watching "Martha" (Martha Stewart) one morning, and one of her guests was Sig Hansen, the captain of the Northwestern, one of the fishing boats from "Deadliest Catch." They talked about crab fishing and the boats up in the Bering Sea. Sig said that now there are college guys saying that they work on crab boats, as a pick-up line! At the risk of stereo-typing, it is definitely a "manly" type job. Martha had a chef on the same episode and he made a fancy crab dish (okay, so I don't like fish that well, and therefore don't know exactly what these fish dishes are called). After it was made, Martha invited Sig and one of his brothers, who also works on the boat, up to taste it. They both really liked it, but to be honest, they looked as though they were into quantity, rather than quality.

So now I've admitted that I have a new found obsession with "Deadliest Catch."

Is there a television show that you're hooked on?

I like that show too, I'm just fascinated by it all. Sometimes I feel a little sea sick just watching the rolling of the boat on the waves:) Our DVR records every episode of Mythbusters and Alton Brown's Good Eats, the whole family can sit down and watch it together.

Hi Cindi ~ Believe it or not, I also like this show quite a bit as well! I don't watch every single episode, but sometimes I'll sit with hubby while he's watching it and it's quite fascinating to me as well...probably for all the same reasons that you listed in your post.

Oh my - I can't pick just one! I am a T.V. HOG! Thanks to Tivo I record what seems like hundreds of shows and then watch them when I can.

Right now I LOVE:
LOST
Grey's Anatomy
House
Bones
CSI (the original and not so much lately with all the cast changes)
ER (same as CSI)

I also watch tons of other shows that for some reason I cannot think of right now.

I even rent DVDs of TV shows to rewatch my favorites, or to catch up on shows that I now want to watch. (I have this thing about watching a show from the beginning - when it first started)

Hello, my name is Elizabeth and I am addicted to TV. It has been one day since I last watched TV!

We like that show too. We aren't watching as much as we used to, but last year we watched it regularly.

I don't want cable so I don't get that show. I do enjoy HOUSE tho.

I have a new blog. I posted my last post on the old one and have a link to the new one there.

I've not seen the Deadliest Catch yet but we watched the premiere of a show about America's Toughest Jobs and the first one they profiled was crab fishermen in the Bering Sea. I had never even given a THOUGHT to crab fisherman before but Holy Cow, I was impressed. What a difficult and frightening job! I'll have to check out the show you mentioned.

My favorite show is Grey's Anatomy. I also am looking forward to a new season of The Amazing Race.
