Alex

One year, while on our annual vacation to Myrtle Beach, SC, Alex decided to write in the sand with a stick. This was the only phrase that could be captured though. He was going through that phase when he said (and wrote) weird, goofy things.
Little Alex is 16 now, and has been since last October. He's a little over 6' tall, but no matter how tall he gets, I will always be his mother! And I never miss an opportunity to remind him of that. Last summer Alex took his bookwork for drivers' ed. He and I did some driving, and his opening comments were usually along the line of "we're gonna die mom, I just know we're gonna die." He has done well and and has accumulated almost 40 hours of driving time. Of course several of those were spent driving through the local cemeteries, which happen to be a very interesting place. I enjoy going through the cemeteries because they make me think of people I haven't thought of in a while...there was the guy I went to high school with who was killed in a motorcycle accident a year after we graduated, there is the late county commissioner whose headstone is in the shape of our county, there is the grave for the baby of someone I went to high school with, etc. It makes you realize how fragile life is.

Anyway, this morning the driving instructor (whom I know because we teach together) picked up Alex and they are starting his driving time with her. He will need to get a few more hours of night driving in and then he will be able to take his drivers' test. He sure has grown up fast.

Alex is dressed up as Robin (of Batman and Robin fame) for Halloween on the left. He was about 4 or 5 years old then. Above, he is dancing with his cousin Kelly at her wedding last May. He actually enjoyed it, but I'm not supposed to tell people that!
